There is palpable tension in Obazu Community in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State obere the 2025 Women August Meeting as executives of Obazu Women Association (OWA) was reportedly dissolved and an interim executive set up Saturday 23rd August, 2015.
According to sources, the women kick-started this year’s August Meeting last Thursday and had fruitful deliberations. But on Friday, they were shocked to find out that the Obazu Civic Hall, venue of the ongoing August Meeting, had been locked up and guarded by security operatives.
Another source from the Community said the President General of Obazu Community, Hon Iheanyi Abaekwume had earlier invited some women leaders and representatives for a meeting.
The women who were said to have been invited to for a meeting under the supervision of the local government chairman and Hon Abaekwume among others. At the meeting held this Saturday, the leadership of OWA with Same Priscilla Nosiri was dissolved and an interim executive was set-up.
According one of the women in attendance, the women who did not accept what they term wrong dissolution of an executive that was set up last year for an “illegal interim administration” became rowdy and started chanting disapproval songs.
Checks by our Correspondent revealed that the PG had been in office for over seven years and had allegedly preferred working with Mrs Jane Obodo who is said to be the Vice Chairperson to Dame Priscilla Nosiri.
The women were said to have waited for the tenure to elapse last year and at the palace of the traditional ruler of Obazu Community, HRH Eze Francis Elendu Agunwa, elected Rose Emerenini as the Chairperson of OWA.
Some of the people who spoke to our Correspondent on condition of anonymity said there is so much interference by the All Progressive Congress (APC) officials in Obazu Community.
They queried the rationale behind the dissolution of an Administration that women themselves chose last year only to set up an interim administration for the women again.
The controversy over the said dissolution and imposition has attracted the attention of many Obazu key personalities both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
For now, our checks reveal that the last may not have been heard about the coup d’etat like development that greeted this year’s Women August Meeting in Obazu Community.
