The meeting, according to a statement from the office of the Vice President, NUJ South East, Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku JP, will bring together chairmen, secretaries and national officers of the union from the five South East states.

The zonal leaders are expected to deliberate on issues affecting journalists and the media industry in the region, as well as matters of broader interest to the South East.

Among the key issues on the agenda is the proposed South East NUJ Zonal Summit, which is expected to provide a platform for journalists, policymakers, professionals and other stakeholders to examine critical issues confronting the region and explore practical solutions.

The meeting will also deliberate on the place of the South East in the geo-politics of Nigeria, with emphasis on the region’s role and relevance in the country’s political, economic and social development.

According to the statement, the zonal leadership is also working towards organising an award ceremony to honour distinguished men and women of South East origin who have made significant contributions in their various fields of endeavour.

The proposed awards, it said, would recognise individuals whose achievements and contributions have positively impacted the region and the country at large.

The Awka meeting is therefore expected to serve as an important platform for the NUJ South East leadership to strengthen unity within the union, review activities in the zone and chart a new course for the media and the region.
