The Action Peoples Party (APP), Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area chapter of Imo State, has called for the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed Dimneze Bridge, saying its condition has cut off residents of the community and neighbouring areas from other parts of the local government.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, and signed by the chapter chairman, Hon. Iheanyi Nwokeafor, the APP alleged that the bridge had remained in a deplorable state for months without intervention from the local government administration led by Executive Chairman, Hon. Obiorah Ndukwe of the APC.
The party said the situation had disrupted the movement of agricultural produce and commercial activities, describing Dimneze as the “food basket” of the local government.
The APP also expressed concern that the collapsed bridge could affect access by electoral officials ahead of forthcoming elections, alleging that the situation could disenfranchise residents of the community.
It said residents were considering a peaceful demonstration to draw attention to the condition of the bridge.
The opposition party therefore demanded the immediate reconstruction of the bridge and urged the local government administration to address the situation without political considerations.
The APP further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to take note of the access challenges affecting Dimneze.
The allegations against the local government chairman and APC were contained in the APP’s statement; the release did not include a response from the chairman or the local government administration.
