The Commandant of the Anti-Motorcycle Unit under the Imo State Ministry of Transport, Hon Innocent I. Njoku has revealed that the Unit, which he heads, is not a part of the Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO).

Addressing newsmen in his office at Owerri Municipal Council secretariat recently, Njoku made it clear that the Anti-Motorcycle Unit is not a taskforce but rather an agency of the Office of the Governor to checkmate the illegal activities of motorcycle operators in the state.

Njoku state that since 2007, his office was given the mandate to implement the ban on motorcycles plying within the Owerri Metropolis, adding that the boundaries between the local government areas and Owerri Metropolitan are under his watch.

Continuing, the Anti-Motorcycle Unit Commandant said it became necessary to.make the clarification because some Imo citizens see the Unit as an ENTRACO taskforce.

He urged the public to assist his office in the pursuit and implementation of the ban on illegal use of motorcycles, as it will help to checkmate crime and criminality across the state.
