Media Excellence Award: Imo govt inaugurates 9-Man Committee, charges on integrity

A new Organising Committee for the annual Imo Media Excellence Award for 2023 has been inaugurated by the Imo State government.

Inaugurating the 9-man Committee for the third edition of the Award, Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba charged the members to ensure that the integrity of the Media Award is sustained.

The Information Commissioner who performed the inauguration ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Ministry, congratulated the members of the Committee, and urged them to outline at least ten categories particularly, qreas not touched in the previous editions.

He thanked the Committee members for accepting to serve and wished them the best in carrying out the exercise, stressing that they should not betray the trust, which the government has in them.

Hon Emelumba disclosed that the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma promised to send Winners of the third Edition of the Media Excellence Award abroad for further training in Journalism, and tasked the Committee to do a thorough job.

The Commissioner described Governor Uzodimma as the most media-friendly Governor since the creation of the state, and called on media practitioners to always report the truth about the Governor.

He equally cited the administration’s impact on youths, civil servants and road Infrastructure among others.

In his own contribution, Special Adviser to the Governor on Orientation and twice Chairman of the Award committee, Chief Dr Fideli Onyeneke thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise of redeeming the prizes for previous winners, and challenged journalists in the state to reciprocate the gesture by upholding professionalism.

In an acceptance speech on behalf of his committee members, the Chairman, Mr. Ukana Omon, thanked the state government through the Information Commissioner for finding them worthy to serve and promised that they would take the exercise to greater heights.

The committee members are Ukana Omon (Chairman), Williams Unadike (Secretary), Chris Dimgba, Gele Agbai, Ifeanyi Nwanguma, Chris Njoku, Chinwe Asogu, Anthony Ozor and Violet Igwe.
