The traditional spokesperson of Ndigbo, Chief Engr Ejike Iwu (Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu) has lent his voice in support of Owerri Zone to produce the next Governor of Imo State in the November 11, 2023 governorship election.
In a release made available to independentvoice.ng, Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu emphasized that in the spirit of equity, Owerri Zone should be supported to produce the next governor of the state.
He stated that since the return of democratic governance in 1999, Orlu Zone has had 20 years on the governorship seat while Okigwe Zone had just 4 years, lamenting that Owerri Zone lasted only 7 months while the same Orlu Zone is angling for additional four years.
The traditional spokesperson of Ndigbo expressed support for the candidacy of Gen Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (retd) who is running for Governorship under the Action Alliance (AA).
Chief Iwu said Ogunewe has enough experience as a trained soldier, having gone on peace missions like Congo among others, to fight insecurity to a halt in Imo at this time.
He urged Imo electorate to come together and rally behind retired General Ogunewe.
Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu decried the high rate of insecurity across the state, adding that what Imo people should do is to have a change of government.
He said he is not saying that the present administration is responsible for the rate of insecurity but that the menace happened under her watch.
While decrying the activities of those being used to destroy and kill in the state, he urged traditional rulers to called youths in their communities to order and allow peace to reign in Imo.
