The Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C (Southeast), Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku JP, has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians across Nigeria, particularly those in the Southeast, urging citizens and leaders to use the season for deep reflection, compassion, and renewed commitment to responsible leadership.
In his Easter message, Adiuku described Easter as a sacred period that symbolizes sacrifice, love, hope, and renewal, noting that the resurrection of Jesus Christ offers reassurance of new beginnings even in the face of adversity.
He observed that Nigeria is currently facing difficult socio-economic realities, stressing that the rising cost of living has placed significant strain on many families.
According to him, numerous households are grappling with hunger, housing challenges, and the increasing difficulty of providing education for their children.
The NUJ chieftain said the Easter season should serve as a time for sober reflection on individual and collective responsibilities toward society, families, and vulnerable members of the community.
He called on citizens to renew their commitment to compassion, justice, and shared responsibility.
Adiuku also urged governments, particularly governors in the Southeast region, to reflect on their leadership roles and responsibilities to the people.
He expressed concern over what he described as the prolonged inactivity of the Southeast governors’ forum, emphasizing the need for improved governance, infrastructure development, and enhanced security across the region.
“Our people deserve good roads, safe communities, and the assurance that they can sleep peacefully at night without fear,” he stated.
He further called on religious leaders and traditional rulers to continue to speak out against social injustices and societal challenges, noting that silence in the face of hardship only worsens the suffering of citizens. He emphasized that their voices remain critical in guiding society toward moral renewal and social responsibility.
Despite the prevailing challenges, Adiuku expressed optimism about the future, saying that Easter represents hope and the possibility of renewal even in difficult times while. encouraging Christians to remain steadfast in faith and to embody the teachings of Christ in their daily lives.
