◾Calls on President Tinubu to rise above ethnic,. religious and political interests

A former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Elder Okenze Ezeji Desmond Ndieze Mbachu, has expressed deep concern over the state of governance and the future of Nigeria, warning of looming political and social crisis if leaders fail to change course.

Speaking during a press interaction titled “Nigeria Today and Future,” the elder statesman, who represented Nguru Aboh Mbaise under the defunct NPP during the Second Republic from 1979 to 1983, lamented what he described as worsening hardship, poor leadership and the growing disconnect between elected officials and the people.

Hon Mbachu as a young parliamentarian in 1980.

Mbachu accused political leaders of abandoning campaign promises immediately after assuming office, alleging that many public office holders focus more on securing re-election and personal enrichment than governance and service delivery.

He predicted that the 2027 general election could trigger serious national tension, claiming that the ruling party would likely retain power while opposition figures may reject the outcome.

According to him, such a development could create uncertainty capable of threatening national stability.

The former lawmaker also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rise above ethnic, religious and partisan interests in addressing the nation’s challenges. He said the President had a historic responsibility to unite the country and restore hope to Nigerians.

Mbachu maintained that Nigeria still has an opportunity to overcome its present difficulties if leaders embrace justice, accountability and people-oriented governance.
