◾As Anyanwu’s Aide describes office of Nat’l Secretary as Engine Room of Party
Contrary to statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Hon Debo Ologunagba that the role of the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu is limited to only taking care of diesel and assigning parking spaces to party officials, among others, Special Adviser to the PDP National Secretary, Ikenna Onuoha, PhD, says Ologunagba lacks knowledge party constitution.
The Special Adviser in a release said: “This statement, if indeed came from a supposed party spokesperson is an indication that he lacks the requisite knowledge of the provisions of the party constitution regarding the duties, functions and programmes of the of the office of the National Secretary.
“Hon Debo Ologunagba, who ordinarily should be speaking for the party failed to highlight the duties of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of PDP in section 36 (1) of the PDP Constitution 2017 as amended simply, because he was out for mischief making.
“Section 36(1) of PDP Constitution states, “There shall be a National Secretary who shall be the Chief Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Party, whose functions shall be to: (a) supervise the day-to-day activities of the Party; (b) conduct or direct the conduct of the correspondences of the Party and cause to be issued notices of meetings of the National Convention, the National Executive Committee, the National Caucus and the National Working Committee;”
“While subsection (c) empowers the National Secretary to “keep or cause to be kept all records of proceedings of the National Convention, the National Executive Committee, the National Caucus and the National Working Committee, as well as other records of the Party; subsection (d) and (e) respectively shows that the office of the National Secretary should “render a written annual report of the activities of the Party to NEC, and National Convention; (e) ensure the implementation of the decisions and directives of the National Convention, National Executive Committee, National Caucus and the National Working Committee, and ensure that all units of the Party carry out their duties promptly and efficiently;”
“The constitution in subsection (f) and (g) state that the National Secretary should, “carry out any other duties as may be assigned to him or her, from time-to-time by the National Convention, National Caucus, National Executive Committee, National Working Committee and the National Chairman; and (h), shall be the custodian of the common seal of the Party.”
“From the provisions above, one will understand that the role of Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary is enormous and goes beyond the petty innuendos credited to Hon Dabo who is obviously out to mislead the public, destroy the party’s reputation and create unnecessary division.
“Rather than adopting this negative and malicious narratives against Senator Anyanwu that are capable of endangering the party’s political prospects, it is wise to look inwards and engage a more pragmatic strategy that can nip all ugly trends in the bud for the survival of PDP, while noting that Senator Anyanwu, as National Secretary has never failed in his duties as enshrined in the PDP constitution.
“Irrespective of the fact that the likes of Hon Debo and his co-travelers are tactically fanning the ember of discord by using provocative words to address or misrepresent the duties of the National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu will continue to apply maturity, and wisdom befitting of his office as the engine room of PDP as part of the oath of allegiance he took to preserve the party against external invasion”.
