The Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring, Hon Chief Ezechukwu N Obonna visited the palace of the Sariki of Hausa Community in Imo State, where he met with leaders of the hausa community in Imo State, to discuss efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The Special Adviser informed them that Governor Hope Uzodimma had directed that all illicit drug-selling outlets, especially Ama Hausa in Owerri, be cleared, as it was reportedly a major hub for drug sales.
The Hausa community leadership pledged to collaborate with the government to address the issue, recognizing the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals and society.
The Special Adviser stated that the visit underscored the government’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and trafficking in Imo State.
He highlighted key initiatives, including awareness campaigns by the Bureau of Narcotics of Narcotics and illicit drugs monitoring to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse, targeting schools, communities, and youth groups.
The expected impact of these efforts includes reduced crime rates, improved public health, enhanced community safety, and support for individuals struggling with addiction.
