◾Primate urges prays God to grant them wisdom, strength, good health, humility, grace
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has elected four new bishops following the conclusion of the Episcopal Synod held during the Advance Episcopal Consultation at Our Saviour’s Chapel, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Announcing the outcome on Thursday, July 16, 2026, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, said the newly elected bishops are Ven. Dr. Godwin Tersoo Simon Yakela (Diocese of Makurdi), Ven. Dr. Kingsley Ogbonda (Diocese of Uyo), Ven. Dr. Julius Oyediran (Diocese of Ekiti Oke), and Ven. Dr. Olayemi Fatusi (Awori Diocese).
The Primate explained that the elections followed prayerful deliberations by members of the Episcopal Synod. He added that the bishops-elect will be consecrated during the General Synod of the Church of Nigeria, scheduled to hold later this year in the Diocese of Remo.
He described the elections as another important step in strengthening the Church’s mission, noting that the bishops-elect will provide spiritual leadership in their respective dioceses and advance the work of evangelism.
Primate Ndukuba also urged members of the Anglican Communion to remember the bishops-elect in their prayers, asking God to grant them wisdom, strength, good health, humility, and the grace to faithfully carry out their episcopal responsibilities.
