The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, has sought stronger collaboration with the Imo State Police Command to enhance security within and around the university community.
Prof. Dozie made the move when he led members of the university’s Management on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, at his office in Owerri.
The engagement, which also afforded the Vice-Chancellor the opportunity to formally introduce himself to the police leadership following his assumption of office, focused largely on the protection of lives and property within the university environment.
Both sides explored ways of strengthening cooperation between FUTO and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in safeguarding students, academic and non-academic staff and other members of the university community.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of a safe and peaceful environment to the effective discharge of the university’s core mandates of teaching, research, innovation and human development.
The proposed collaboration is expected to strengthen security response, intelligence sharing and coordination with relevant security agencies, while complementing existing security arrangements within the institution.
Prof. Dozie was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Remy Uche; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. C. C. Ogueke; University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Justina Ekere; and representatives of the University Bursar, Mrs. Ebere Nwadike, led by Mr. Okechukwu Oji.
The Chief Security Officer of the university and other aides of the Vice-Chancellor were also part of the delegation.
