The media team of the member representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu, has said the recent Supreme Court judgment on provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 does not affect his candidacy for the 2027 election.
In a statement issued on Friday by Chinedu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nnamdi Ukasanya, the team said the lawmaker fulfilled all applicable legal, electoral and party requirements for his nomination as the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate.
The statement followed the Supreme Court’s judgment of September 24, 2026, in which the apex court upheld the validity of sections 77(5), 77(6), 77(7) and 84(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which relate, among other matters, to political party membership registers and candidate nomination processes.
According to the media team, Chinedu’s nomination complied with the applicable requirements, including provisions concerning party membership registers, stipulated timelines and the nomination process.
The team therefore urged supporters and residents of the federal constituency to disregard what it described as attempts to create fear or uncertainty over the lawmaker’s candidacy.
“Rt. Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu is still on the ballot,” the statement said.
The media team also said Chinedu and his supporters remained respectful of the judiciary and electoral laws, while expressing confidence in his candidacy.
