The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has called on security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate the alleged forgery of an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) document purportedly declaring former Governor Rochas Okorocha winner of the party’s Imo West Senatorial primary.
The party described the document as fake, alleging that it was part of attempts to create a false narrative around the outcome of the party’s recently concluded nomination process.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, PhD, the APC said the purported document should be investigated and those behind it brought to book.
According to the party, Governor Hope Uzodimma emerged as the APC candidate for Imo West after securing an overwhelming majority of valid votes at the primary conducted by the Rear Admiral Williams Kayode (Rtd)-led committee.
The party further clarified that INEC does not conduct internal party primaries or declare winners of such exercises, but only monitors and observes the processes.
It urged aggrieved aspirants and members to desist from what it described as post-primary litigation and attempts to obtain the party’s ticket through the courts.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and transparency, urging members to respect the outcome of the nomination process and work together ahead of the forthcoming elections.
