The recently held combined 34th and 35th convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has been described by the Alumni Association Planning Committee as a huge success.
In a release by the Committee, which was signed by Ikukundu Iyke Anyanwu, Team Lead, Publicity And Media, LOC Alumni Convocation Activity Program, RTN Stanley Madu, Chairman LOC Alumni Convocation Activity Program and Prof. Laz Uzoechi, National President, FUTO Alumni Association, the Alumni Association stated with pride that ” the resounding success of the 34th & 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony series of events, which have set a benchmark for academic convocations nationwide”.
The release stated that the tone of success was set by FUTO Vice Chancellor’s Pre-Convocation Press Briefing, which featured engaging discussions and media involvement, highlighting FUTO’s commitment to academic excellence.
Earlier, an “Ecumenical Service and a Tree Planting initiative saw the FUTO family come together in unity, reaffirming our collective commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship”.
“The Convocation Lecture served as an intellectual beacon, fostering dialogue on pressing issues and innovative ideas.
“The much-anticipated Chancellor’s Cocktail/Alumni Night emerged as a grand celebration, providing a platform for alumni to network and celebrate the legacy of our esteemed institution.
“The conferral of Honorary Doctorate Degrees, including a Doctor of Technology, Honoris Causa, to Engr. Chief Dr. Chibuike L. Achigbu, was a ceremony highlight, and we once again extend our congratulations for this well-deserved recognition”, the release disclosed.
On the Alumni Stakeholders Parley, the LOC Alumni Convocation Activity Program indicated that “this year’s Parley was a focal point for strategic discussions, with updates on the Alumni Association’s roadmap and notable strides in addressing longstanding issues.
“A significant highlight was the announcement of a successful pilot phase for the transcript resolution initiative, a project that received substantial support from Alumni members, including the pivotal contribution of an industrial scanner by Dr. Chibuike L. Achigbu, furthering the digitalization of academic records”.
Touching on the effort of NEC, the Alumni Convocation committee said the “current NEC’s efforts were commended with a 70% appraisal score, reflecting the tangible progress made, particularly in the resolution of the transcript issue and the promising release of alumni funds. Constructive advice was tendered for the NEC to adopt more proactive and innovative strategies, ensuring that Alumni activities synergize with university programs to maximize impact and avoid duplication of efforts”.
On Commitment to Excellence, the stated that FUTO Alumni Association reaffirmed its dedication “to elevating our Alumni to global standards. Our commitment to excellence and the fostering of a vibrant community is unwavering as we look forward to a future that honors our cherished past and the bright prospects ahead.
