A motion urging the Imo State Government led by Sen. Hope Uzodinma to direct see educational institutions to comply with directives to ensure effective management and transmission of results, transcripts and certificates of their students or pupils has been presented before the Imo State House of Assembly.
The Chief Sponsor and member representing Ezinihitte Mbaise State Constituency, Hon Dr Henry Agbasonu in a motion at the floor of the House, which he co-sponsored with Hon. Okechukwu Udeze and Hon. Francis on Thursday pleaded with his colleagues to support the motion which gained massive consideration as the Lawmakers agreed in one accord, urging the Governor to give sound directive to state owned tertiary institutions through the Vice Chancellors, Provosts and Rectors to maintain digital recording and transmission of Results, Transcripts and Certificates of their students to save undue delays and bureaucracy characterized by the current system which he said should be addressed urgently to remedy the ugly situation which has befall the system.
Dr. Agbasonu, who is the Chairman House Committee on Education cited the Babcock University as a case study as being proactive and very efficient in handling exams and records.
According to the Honourable Member it takes Babcock University three days to process Results and Transcripts of their students and wonders why tertiary institutions in Imo State struggle with results and transcripts processing for 6months and above, adding that it is detrimental to the advancement of Education in the State.
Continuing, Hon. Agbasonu, it will no longer be business as usual as the 10th House is poised to change the narrative through “legislative oversight function in ensuring improved education system in Imo State where our students at their leisure anywhere in the country or the world can access at ease their educational records from their institutions via a digital solution launched at various institutions of learning operating in Imo State”.
