The need to prepare our communities and the rural areas in the nine constituent States of NDDC has compelled the Niger Delta Development Commission through her Directorate for Community and Rural Development to initiate a precautionary measure to prepare the inhabitants in the communities of the region against the impending/imminent flood.
According to the Nigeria Meteorological Agency who made this disclosure coupled with the flood devastating menace in Borno states fortnight ago.
The commission which has already engaged the services of Nigeria Emergency Management Agency to provide adequate knowledge to people in the community and rural areas required to mitigate this impending natural disaster.
The Federal Commissioner in his address to the Nigeria Newsmen yesterday at Fullmoon Hotel, Owerri the venue for the flag off asserted that flood is a natural disaster which no one knows when it will occur but to ceaselessly engage in proactive measures to ameliorate its environmental devastation in case it happens.
Hon Uchegbu caution the people to also stop building on the water ways as well ensure the continuous desilting of their drainages to avoid blockages that might restrain flood from flowing on its natural/provided ways. As this is the only way by which we protect our environment from the potency of this natural disaster.
Dr Uchegbu decry the growing and carefree ways with which our people litter the drainages with refuse materials and advised them to desist from this antisocial actions.
Furthermore, the CDR department of NDDC and NEMA had also provided other necessary guidelines to the participants to protect life and property in case flood occurs other than being caught in the middle of the web.
