A grieving mother, Mrs. Enwereji Mark Rose, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), seeking urgent intervention over the alleged killing of her son, Mr. Enwereji Mark Okezie, in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

In the petition dated August 15, 2026 and filed through the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Human Right Committee, Aba Branch, the petitioner urged the police authorities to immediately reopen and thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, alleging that the existing investigation had been slow and compromised.

The petition named Mr. Chimeze Nwiso, Mr. Chimaobi Nwokpokoroala, Aboki (M) and others as suspects, alleging that they were linked to the planning and execution of the killing. The allegations have not been established in court.

According to the petition, the deceased was allegedly dragged from his compound shortly after 1 a.m. while he was asleep and fatally shot. It further alleged that Mrs. Rose witnessed the incident from a nearby room.

The petitioner claimed that the alleged killing was connected to a dispute over the community kingship process and the deceased’s alleged opposition to the collection of illegal levies from traders.

The petition said the matter was reported at Osisioma Police Station, but alleged that the suspects had not been arrested despite the passage of time.

The mother is now asking the IGP to order an immediate and thorough investigation, invite, arrest and detain the named suspects for interrogation, and prosecute anyone found culpable before a competent court.

She also pleaded for urgent police protection, alleging that she and members of her family had been threatened by the persons she identified in the petition as suspects.

The petitioner further requested that the police communicate the outcome of their investigation within a reasonable time, while submitting photographs, videos of the deceased and other materials as supporting evidence.

The NBA Human Right Committee, which signed the petition on behalf of Mrs. Rose, appealed to the police leadership not to allow anyone found responsible for the alleged killing to escape justice.

None of the accused persons could be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.
