The traditional spokesperson of Ndigbo, Chief Engr Ejike Iwu (Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu), has condemned in strong terms the alleged abduction and brutalization of the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero in Owerri, Imo State.

Comrade Ajaero was reportedly attacked at the NLC Secretariat on Wednesday during an ‘Occupy Imo’ protest by organised labour in support of workers in Imo.

Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu frowned at the brazen manner in which a national figure like the number 1 worker in Nigeria would be molested like a common street urchin, that led to his being hospitalized at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri.

Chief Iwu while decrying the national insult against the Labour union in general and Ndigbo in particular, asked: “If Comrade Ajaero as a national figure, a man who has risen to the pinnacle of his trade union, is molested in the manner in the North or West or even South-south parts of the nation, how would Ndigbo and Ndi Imo in particular have taken such insult?”

Continuing, the Igbo Spokesperson said it is appalling that there are arguments over who attacked the national Labour leader in his own state of origin.

“People are trading blames as to who actually attacked Comrade Ajaero. Some section of the media reported that hoodlums infiltrated the Labour protest. Others say he was arrested by security operatives. And another report has it that he was abducted.

“This is most unfortunate considering the fact that nobody seems to be held responsible for this attack on the person of Comrade Ajaero”.

Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu called government and security operatives to “fish out those responsible for this national disgrace”.

“Somebody or organization should render an apology to Comrade Ajaero, NLC, Imo people and Ndigbo as a first step.

“Government should unravel those behind this as a proof that Imo is not the headquarters of insecurity in the entire South East”.
