Rights Groups Accuse INEC, APC of Plotting to Truncate 2027, Demand Restoration of Excluded Candidates

Two civil society groups, the Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance (CACOBAG) and the Centre for Democracy and Justice (CDJ), have accused INEC, the APC and the National Assembly of undermining the 2027 elections by excluding candidates from the final list released on 10 October.

In a joint statement on Monday, they said candidates from the PDP, NDC, ADC, NNPP and other parties were affected, as were some APC members in Lagos. They alleged that Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, who polled 9,132 votes in an INEC-monitored primary in Agege Constituency I, was replaced without any written withdrawal, as the Electoral Act requires.

The groups also criticised INEC’s compulsory online party registration and a provision of the Electoral Act 2026 that bars certificate forgery claims from tribunals if not raised before the election. They called both unconstitutional.

They demanded that INEC restore all excluded candidates and publish primary results and videos, that the National Assembly repeal the offending clauses, and that the judiciary void unlawful substitutions.
INEC, the APC and the Presidency had not responded at the time of filing.
