The official flag off of campaigns by Chief Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu of the Labour Party The contentious issue of Labour Party will soon take place in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Information from the office of the Publicity Secretary of Labour Party said Chief Ukaegbu disclosed this in a telephone chat with the Lamidi Apapa recognized Chairman of LP in Imo State, Nze Cyril Akujobi.
“All is now politically set for a hitch free flag off of my governorship campaign/ rallies in the state”, Ukaegbu disclosed.
He said: ”Logistics and other necessary arrangements have been put in place ahead of what I described as the mother of all political rallies in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
“We are going to shut down Owerri during my campaign flag off. Owerri and Imolites are going to witness the mother of all political rallies”.
Ukaegbu while reacting to his governorship ticket as Imo Labour Party 2023 Candidate, said the Supreme Court, in its ruling on Thursday, 28th Sept.2023 dismissed the matter for lacking both locus and merit, saying that all those who challenged his emergence as governorship candidate of the party, in court, failed woefully.
“Following my affirmation as the authentic candidate of the Labour party for Imo State off-circle government election in the state by the Supreme Court, I have the legal right to flag off my governorship campaign as soon as possible for want of time”
While thanking Labour Party members and supporters for their patience and understanding throughout the litigation period, he urged them to brace up for the great tasks ahead.
Political watchers are divided on the fate of the Labour Party in Imo which had Sen Athan Achonu as its candidate and the various legal pronouncements by different courts including the Supreme Court.
