The Rangers International Football Club Foundation (RIFC Foundation), in partnership with the Science Technical Vocational School Management Board (STVSMB), has commenced Social Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) principals and school administrators across Enugu State.

The programme, held at the STVSMB Conference Room, is aimed at strengthening structures for the institutionalization of SEL in technical schools, using Government Technical College (GTC) Enugu as a model for statewide implementation.

Chairman of STVSMB, Dr. Mrs. Amaka Ngene, commended the initiative, describing the foundation as resolute in its community impact. She noted that the intervention is key to improving student behaviour, enhancing employability skills, and promoting workplace readiness.

She said the progress recorded at Government Technical College Enugu has been encouraging, adding that the Board is committed to expanding the initiative across all technical schools under its supervision.

Ngene explained that the intervention would equip principals, teachers, and administrators with modern skills for managing students, fostering positive relationships, and supporting sustainable development in the school system.

During the session, Coach Ebere Amaraizu presented the RIFC Foundation’s 4-Step SEL Model, built on the A-B-C approach, J-U-S-T model, and the 90-second rule. He stressed that the framework focuses on proactive behavioural change rather than punishment.

He said SEL provides an alternative to fear-based school systems, which often lead to trauma, aggression, and negative behaviours, while promoting respect, trust, and long-term discipline among students.

The model highlights the need to challenge irrational beliefs, encourage emotional control, build empathy through practical exercises, and teach essential social and behavioural skills.

Participants also engaged in practical demonstrations, including exercises designed to help educators better understand students and promote inclusive learning environments.

The intervention builds on ongoing activities at Government Technical College Enugu, where early results indicate improvements in student behaviour and engagement.

The RIFC Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the programme, with a focus on behavioural change, employability skills, workplace readiness, and overall student development.

Stakeholders believe the initiative could serve as a model for wider adoption of SEL in technical education across the country.
