The South East Zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has extended warm felicitations to workers across the region as they mark the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the annual event on May 1, the Vice President of NUJ Zone C (South East), Ezenwa Adiuku, praised the resilience, dedication, and contributions of Nigerian workers despite prevailing economic and social challenges.
Adiuku paid special tribute to journalists and media professionals, describing them as critical to the sustenance of democracy through their commitment to truth, accountability, and public enlightenment.
He noted that despite economic pressures, safety concerns, and the changing dynamics of the media industry, journalists have remained steadfast in upholding professional ethics and standards.
The NUJ leader emphasized that the sacrifices of media practitioners, often unrecognized, are essential to nation-building, good governance, and the preservation of democratic values.
He urged journalists in the South East to remain committed to professionalism, integrity, and courage, stressing the need to continue amplifying citizens’ voices and holding leaders accountable.
Adiuku also called on governments and employers to improve the welfare, safety, and professional development of workers, particularly journalists, whose influence on public discourse remains significant.
He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to building a more just, united, and prosperous society, wishing workers across the region a rewarding Workers’ Day celebration.
