The election of HRM, Eze Damian Emeka Obianigwe of Isi Ihiteowerri kingdom as the Chairman, Orlu Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers, has been described as the dawn of a positive new era in the affairs of Orlu Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers.
Eze Obianigwe was overwhelmingly elected Chairman by Orlu zone taditional rulers on April 16,2026.
Speaking to newsmen, an indigene of Orsu local government area in Orlu geopolitical zone, who witnessed the election, Chief Gabriel Ndukwu, described Eze Obianigwe’s election as peaceful, and a true reflection of the wish of majority of traditional rulers in the zone.
He explained that the election was orderly and that the monarchs freely expressed their preference for Eze Obianigwe’s leadership, considering his sterling leadership qualities and administrative ingenuity.
According to Chief Ndukwu, “some of the traditional rulers I personally spoke to on why they opted for Eze Obianigwe as their Chairman, told me that they need as Chairman, someone who can protect their interests, a person who is not greedy or self-centred;a man who has pedigree and proven track record of leadership, who has contacts and can boldly stand for them anywhere and any time.”
He said that “Eze Obianigwe embodies all these qualities and remains an asset to Orlu Zone traditional rulers,” questioning why they can opt for a lesser personality when have what they want in Eze Obianigwe.
Ndukwu stated that the election of Eze Obianigwe should serve as a model for all elections,including elections for political office aspirants,positing that Eze Obianigwe,judging by what transpired during the election, is very popular among traditional rulers in Orlu zone. “No traditional ruler can contest Eze Obianigwe’s election as Chairman, Orlu Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers unless that person is an enemy of progress against Orlu zone. All the monarchs congratulated him happily after his election. If any traditional ruler, for whatever selfish reasons, goes out and begins to insinuate otherwise, such a traditional ruler is not just an enemy of Orlu traditional rulers, but also an enemy of progress and visionary leadership,” Ndukwu said.
Eze Obianigwe succeeds HRM Eze Thomas Obiefule of Umudioka Ancient kingdom.
