The Local Government Ladies Association, LOGLA, marked its 20th Anniversary with a Grand Reception in Umuahia pledging full support for Governor Dr. Alex Otti’s administration and renewed action against gender-based violence. The 2026 Annual Conference, themed _“Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girl Child: The Role of Local Government Women,”_ brought together female civil servants from Abia’s 17 LGAs to celebrate women’s contributions to grassroots governance.
Princess Ngwakwe Ezinne Judith PhD, Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, said the event aimed to unite council women for peace and effective service delivery. “Our achievement here is just to unite the women from the 17 Councils so that there will be peace and for them to be in harmony and to do the work they are expected to do, respecting the rules and regulations guiding the Commission,” she stated. The reception also honored Governor Alex Otti, OFR, and celebrated Her Excellency Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti.
Princess Ngwakwe confirmed LOGLA’s partnership with the Office of the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, describing her as “the mother of Abia State.” “If we are not collaborating with her, she will not be here today present… the Bible says two cannot work together except they agree,” she noted. She praised Governor Otti as a “pragmatic leader” and expressed hope that he would “complete the next four years” in 2027, adding, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman. Train a woman, train a nation.”
*She also commended the efforts of the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Elder James Ebere Nwokeocha, and other board members of the Commission for their dedication to staff welfare and institutional reforms.* She further commended Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Supervisory Commissioner of the Commission, calling him “a man filled with wisdom and kind.” She offered prayers for his strength, “even in this time of his grief,” and lauded his leadership of the Local Government Service Commission.
Delegates at the event resolved to intensify campaigns against violence targeting women and girls in rural communities, enforce civil service rules, and support state policies on gender welfare. The conference closed with a call for unity among female council workers as key to effective governance and service delivery across Abia State.
