…Tasks presidency not to allow intimidation of Igbos
…. Urges FG to make Seaports in the East viable

Reactions have continued to trail the demolition of houses said to be illegal structures by the Lagos State government.

The traditional spokesperson of Ndigbo and Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu, Chief Engr Ejike Iwu has frowned at what he described as the attack on Igbo interest in Lagos as many of their buildings were said to have been involved in the demolition.

Speaking with our Correspondent in Owerri, Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu called the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the issue.

He asked if the presidency is not aware of the demolition of houses allegedly belonging to Igbos by the Lagos State government.

Chief Iwu wondered if all the demolished structures were illegally built, calling the federal government not to allow any part of the country to marginalize or attack the Igbos directly or indirectly.

He queried that if the houses were all illegal structures, who now have authorisation for them to be built in the first place. “Does it mean all the destroyed house never had any authorisation before they were built from authorities in the same Lagos?

According to Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu, if Igbos are no longer wanted in Lagos, then the federal government should work on the seaports in the Eastern axis like Port Harcourt and Calabar to make them viable.

He further demanded that the Oguta-Orashi River should be given attention and dredged to enable Igbo business people to come back and continue their business in the East.

Chief Iwu stated that it is the marginalisation of the South East in terms of infrastructure like seaports that made so many Igbos to move to Lagos and other parts of the country for their livelihood.

He called on the Lagos State government to halt the demolition of Igbo properties in forthwith, urging the government to remember that prominent markets in Lagos lIke Alaba International, Idumota, Maryland, among others, were built and made to prosper by the Igbos.

Onuigbo Ndigbo Gburugburu made it clear that enough of the attacks on Igbo in Lagos or elsewhere as Ndigbo are not happy with this action of Lagos State government.
