…Says over 6000 APC member set to join SDP Sept 28
The Social Democratic Party, SDP in Imo State, has debunked reports in some section of the media recently, which alleged that the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Barr Nlem Uchenna Cyril has dumped the party to support Sen Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a press statement signed by the state party chairman and secretary, Ambassador Eluwa Henry Ifeanyi and Uchenna Uzoho respectively which was made available to newsmen on Monday, the party stated that the publication came to the Deputy Governorship candidate, Barr Nlem as a shock.
According to the party “Barr. Nlem Uchenna Cyril is and still remains the Deputy Governorship Candidate of SDP Imo State”.
It further stressed that ”there is no evidential proof of any letter of resignation duely addressed to the National /State Executive of SDP and signed by our Deputy Governorship Candidate”.
The release read: “The attention of the leadership and State Executive Council (SEC) of our great Party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Imo state has been drawn to a deceitful and misleading publication in Statesman Newspaper and Horn Newspaper of September 9th 2023 and Monday 11th September, 2023, respectively with the above caption.
“Ordinarily, our great Party, the Social Democratic Party viewed the Publication as the handiwork of the propaganda team of All Progressive Congress (APC), Imo State, and had wished to ignore it, but sequel to the disturbing nature of the Publication on the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our great Party who is at the epicenter of the misleading Publication, Barrister Nlem Uchenna Cyril, it behoves on the Party leadership to put the records straight, hence this rejoinder.
It Is not out of place that the All Progressive Congress (APC), Imo State Chapter are very much aware of the imminent failure staring them at the face ahead of the November 11th Governorship Election and have resorted to cheap propaganda and campaign of calumny against SDP, a Party they strongly believe is the party to beat.
“Barrister Nlem Uchenna, our Deputy Governorship Cadidate has expressed shock over the publication and has denied in its entirety that at no point did he resign from the Social Democratic Party to support Senator Hope Uzodinma and his Imo Charter of Equity. He has also threatened to sue the Statesman Newspaper and Horn Newspaper that published the said story.
“This propaganda is coming from the propaganda team of APC ahead of the defection of well over 6,000 members of APC to SDP slated for September 28th, 2023”.
Imo SDP urged Imo electorate and supporters “to discountenance this baseless propaganda stunt coming from a drowning Party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), Imo State”.
It called on all party ”faithful, supporters and lovers of democracy to be steadfast and continue supporting SDP, knowing full well that SDP will transform Imo State from Obscurity to PROSPERITY”.
