A prominent cleric and Presiding Bishop of House of God International Church, Bishop Athan Azubuike JP, has called on Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, to contest the Imo West Senatorial District seat, describing the move as both a political and spiritual necessity for stronger Igbo representation at the national level.

Azubuike, whom is also a community leader, said his appeal was driven by what he described as the governor’s proven leadership capacity and prior legislative experience, which he believes position him to effectively articulate the interests of Ndigbo in the National Assembly.

Speaking during a gathering of clergy and congregants, the cleric said he had sought divine guidance on the future of the South-East and was convinced that Uzodimma’s return to the Senate would strengthen the region’s voice in national affairs. He noted that the governor’s previous tenure as a senator provided him with deep knowledge of legislative processes and national politics.

Azubuike also cited Uzodimma’s participation in national policy platforms, including governors’ forums and federal committees, as evidence of his broad political influence and nationwide acceptance. According to him, such exposure would enable the governor to build alliances and advance policies beneficial to the South-East.

The bishop further projected that Uzodimma could emerge as a strong contender for the position of Senate President if he returns to the Red Chamber, arguing that the South-East should have the opportunity to occupy the office in the future rotation of national leadership positions.

He described the governor as a resilient political figure with the capacity to advocate firmly for the interests of his people, adding that his political strength within the ruling party could translate into greater representation and development opportunities for the region.
