Members of the Ndi Ojiugwo Abam community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State have staged a peaceful protest at the state government house in Umuahia, demanding the enforcement of a Supreme Court judgment based on a survey plan referenced in the ruling. The judgment, delivered over two decades ago, was in favor of Ndi Ebe Abam, but the protesters are not contesting the verdict. Instead, they are insisting on the implementation of the specific survey plan attached to the judgment, which they believe is crucial for resolving the longstanding land dispute.
The protesters claim that disagreements over alternative survey documents have contributed to repeated clashes, and are appealing to Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu to intervene and implement the Supreme Court judgment to guarantee lasting peace. They are seeking the government’s assistance in ensuring that the judgment is enforced, and that the demarcation exercise is carried out in accordance with the survey plan.

The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace and ensuring lawful execution of the Supreme Court judgment. The Deputy Governor’s office clarified that the ongoing demarcation exercise is being informed by constitutional responsibilities and the governor’s directive, and is aimed at enforcing the Supreme Court decision. The government has urged residents of the affected communities to remain calm and stay away from the disputed area while the tracing and demarcation process continues.

The administration remains committed to justice, lawful procedure, and peaceful coexistence among communities across Abia State, and is working towards providing clarity, reducing tension, and entrenching lasting peace in the area.
