●He’s politically savvy, reposes confidence in Onyedebelu
Former Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Chris Okewulonu, has described the recently concluded State Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which produced Hon Austin Onyedebelu as Chairman, as a “water-shed in the history of political party congresses in Imo State.”
He noted that “the Congress was rancour-free, well organised and reflected the wishes of party members ” in the State.
Chief Okewulonu, a legal luminary, stated this in a statement issued in Owerri on the heels of the just concluded APC State Congress. According to him,the success of the Congressess so far held in Imo State from the ward, local government areas, and up to the State level, is “attributable to Governor Uzodimma’s Political sagacity and, savvyness.”
He posited that where there is a focused and charismatic leadership at the helm of affairs, as is the case with Governor Uzodimma,there are bound to be orderliness and promotion of democratic ethos.
He pointed out that “in Imo State and Southeast,Governor Uzodimma has rejigged our party(APC),infused cohesion, discipline and team spirit,” which are lacking in most of the other political parties in Nigeria.
Okewulonu, in congratulating the newly elected APC Chairman in Imo State, Hon. Austin Onyedebelu reminded him of the need to embrace the traits of a servant-leader rather than seeing himself as Lord over others.
“Mr. Chairman was elected by the people to serve the party. It is a mark of trust. His powers and authority are derived from them. He should not betray or treat them with levity.With God on his side, he will excel in his duties as our Chairman,” Okewulonu stated.
The former SGI further advised Onyedebelu to always put the interest of the party first above personal interests.
“Consultations are important. He should endeavour to consult widely, especially the governor,who is the leader of our party not just in Imo State and Southeast but also a prominent national figure in Nigeria. If he follows the governor’s guidance and political wisdom, there will be no roughages on his path,” Okewulonu reiterated.
