The President General of Ndiojiogwo Abam Community, Ohaafor Arochukwu Mr. Ikwam Ebe Uka, has made a fervent appeal to the Abia State Government, led by Governor Dr. Alex Otti, to intervene in a protracted land dispute between Ndiojiogwo and a neighboring community, and ndi Ebe Abam with a view to promoting peace, stability, and development in the area.
In a statement, Uka emphasized that the community respects the 2000 Supreme Court ruling on the dispute, but stressed the need for government intervention to demarcate the land and ensure peaceful coexistence between the communities. He noted that despite the ongoing dispute, which started since 1976 Ndiojiogwo community has exercised utmost restraint, refraining from accessing the disputed area since the case began, resulting in significant economic losses, particularly in farming and agriculture.
Uka commended Governor Otti and Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu for their commitment to peace and urged them to intervene in the matter, leveraging their leadership to bring about a resolution. He emphasized that government demarcation of the land would prevent future conflicts, foster development, and unlock the full potential of the area, citing ongoing projects like the construction of a smart school.
The community’s appeal is underscored by concerns about the neighboring community’s alleged encroachment on the disputed land, despite a letter from the Deputy Governor advising against it. Uka urged the government to expedite action, stressing that the community’s desire for peace and development hinges on a resolution to the dispute.
